Stone Mountain Park
- June 18, 2010
When I visited Stone Mountain many years ago, it was an interesting place to visit but not as impressive as it is now. Stone Mountain Park has really grown!
I can remember taking a train ride around the base of the mountain and seeing the huge granite mountain with the world’s largest rock carving on the side. I took a hike up to the top of the mountain, and phew! You really need to be in shape for that. After spending a little while at the top catching my breath and catching the views, I took the Sky Ride to the bottom. After those activities, it was time to have a picnic in the picnic area and then on to the laser light show.
Visiting now was a very different experience. There are many new attractions and things to do. There is the Sky Hike – a large adventure course in the trees, with rock walls to climb, line bridges to cross, and zip lines; a mini golf course, shows to see, shopping and dining, and so much more. For an additional fee to your day’s adventure pass, you can “Ride the Ducks”, vehicles that go from land to water to land again. As you ride, you learn about the history of Stone Mountain Park. Then of course, there’s the stunning lasershow at night.
What a fun time we had and are looking forward to doing it again soon.
